The Parlor
A room with a gramophone and several conversations already in progress. Sit here while you work. The record will turn for as long as you let it.

Layer: tone18
Layer: laughter30
Layer: chatter40
Layer: clinking✦
Each layer is a separate channel. The room tone is a continuous vinyl-crackle bed. Laughter and clinking fire at random intervals, as if from another table. Chatter — the daimons murmuring to one another through the wall — is a forthcoming layer; for now it sits silent.
Slide a layer down to zero to silence it. Slide everything down and you are sitting in the gramophone alone. Slide everything up and you are in the middle of an 1890s coffeehouse at ten past nine in the evening, while four men in the next booth argue about whether the stars are alive.
